LSU coach Paul Mainieri made it clear in no uncertain terms earlier this week that the Tigers baseball program needs an infusion of talent to get back on track, especially on offense.

LSU will soon have a permanent fixture of NBA great Shaquille O’Neal executing one of his rim-rocking dunks. The university plans to unveil a bronze, life-size statue of a young “Shaq” dunking in his LSU basketball uniform outside of the Pete Maravich Assembly Center’s new practice facility, said Herb Vincent, LSU associate vice chancellor for communications.

Baseball: Tigers pull ahead late in first road game

http://link.collegepublisher.com/2jet.8/TYGUjvQCFi3da00ZB39c8

Sandwiched between two of the No. 8 LSU baseball team's biggest series of the season, Nicholls State wasn't expected to provide the Tigers with much of a challenge. But in their first road game of the season, the Tigers (16-1) were down by multiple runs for much of the game before a late scoring barrage put them ahead for good in a 12-8 victory against the Colonels (7-8).

Balancing act for Ware

LSU running back tries to make impact on baseball team
http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/114886774.html?utm_source=bleacherreport.com

As he watched the Cotton Bowl unfold and saw Spencer Ware carve a place in LSU’s football future, Tigers baseball coach Paul Mainieri saw plenty to like.

Ware rushed for 102 yards on 10 carries against Texas A&M in LSU’s 41-24 win, setting himself up as a contender for the starting tailback spot in 2011 now that Stevan Ridley has departed early for the NFL draft.

“Every time he touched the ball, I would turn to my son Tommy and say ‘This kid is moving up the baseball depth chart with each carry,’ ” Mainieri said with a grin.

College Football Predictions 2011: Over-Under Win Total on Every SEC Team

The LSU Tigers have a great football program with deep-rooted tradition.

With the "Mad Hatter" Les Miles leading the team it's just a matter of time before the Tigers bring home another BCS trophy.

Perhaps it will happen in 2011.

Some feel the LSU Tigers will be the No. 1 team in the country when the 2011 season starts.  We shall see.

2010: 10-2 overall, 6-2 SEC

2011: 12-1 overall, 8-0 SEC

Final Senior Bowl update

The South defeated the North 24-10 in the Senior Bowl on Saturday thanks to a pair of touchdown passes from Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder.

Here's a wrap-up from the Scouts Inc. guys on what former SEC players helped themselves and those who maybe didn't help themselves last week in Mobile, Ala.:

Georgia offensive guard Clint Boling, Alabama offensive tackle/guard James Carpenter, LSU linebacker Kelvin Sheppard and Tennessee tight end Luke Stocker were among the players Todd McShay listed whose draft stock is on the rise coming out of the Senior Bowl. Boling and Stocker exceeded expectations, according to McShay.

LSU place-kicker Josh Jasper demonstrated good accuracy inside 40 yards, but wasn't as consistent on longer field goals. His hang time on kickoffs was good, but he was average to below average with his distance.

RABALAIS: Signing day complicated for Tigers

The LSU Tigers are just two days away from signing an exceptional recruiting class.

LSU has horded most of the state’s bluest blue-chip talent, filled its needs amply at just about every position except linebacker, and virtually assured itself of a psychologically important top-10 national recruiting ranking.

But nothing is as simple as it looks. And as the Tigers tick off the hours until the national letters of intent come rolling in, there are complications.

Boy, are there complications.

LSU has set up its own ceiling with this recruiting class by proposing to the NCAA that it sign only 23 players. That’s based on LSU’s self-reported recruiting violations concerning the now long gone Akiem Hicks and ex-assistant D.J. McCarthy and a glut of impermissible recruiting phone calls made by non-coaching members of the LSU football staff.

LSU football: Elliott Porter enrolled, plans to walk on in spring

Baton Rouge - Former Shaw lineman Elliott Porter confirmed he is enrolled for the spring semester at LSU and plans to join the football team as a walk-on during spring practice.

"I'm great (with being here)," Porter said Wednesday. "I love it. This is my home. I don't hold any grudges. I want to get on with my career."

Porter (6-feet-4 and 285 pounds) wasn't so happy with LSU last August when he was informed that despite signing a national letter of intent in February of 2010, the Tigers program did not have a scholarship for him immediately.

LSU Coach Les Miles asked Porter to take a grayshirt - wait until January before enrolling on scholarship - but Porter declined. He asked for and received a release and signed with Kentucky.

After redshirting with the Wildcats in the 2010 season, Porter decided to come home. He played defensive line in high school but will be an offensive lineman at LSU.

Wednesday Evening and Thursday Morning

I had discussions with a Sunday School classmate about a wedding shower for a couple in the class that we are giving them.  I designed a shower invitation and she stopped by to see me with a kit that she had purchased of fancy invitations along with a set of invitations to use for another event that will be taking place.

I left work on time - barely - and headed for home, stopping by the post office for the mail.  At the time Channel 3 was reporting that it was 24 degrees with a wind chill of 15.  Regardless - it was cold!!!

There was a box full - mostly junk, but there was also a key indicating a package.  I went and retrieved it.  It was from the Book of the Month Club.  I did not recall having ordered any books from them.  I took the package and the other mail, after having sorted out the junk and went on home.

I found my housemate was at home when I raised the garage door.  I pulled in and parked and got all of my stuff from the car, then headed for the kitchen door.  I opened it and hit the wall switch to bring down the garage door.  My housemate was in the kitchen preparing her supper.  Being loaded down, I headed straight for my bedroom and dropped everything off.

I brought the bag with the invitations in it back out to show them to her and she liked them.  I returned the bag to my bedroom and then rejoined her and fixed supper and ate myself.

As I did, I went through the mail; I didn't open the box with the books inside, but I did remove the envelope with the invoice on the front of it and opened that.  I discovered what books were inside based on the list and was livid when I saw that Book of the Month Club had charged my VISA debit card for the shipment [$41.47] as I had not ordered these books and on top of that, I had specifically sent them an e-mail stating that I did not want my VISA debit card charged for any shipments - period!  I did not order these books - these were the "selections of the month" - but they obviously shipped them to me anyway.  I do not want them and will be returning them today after work.

Of course I will have to pay the postage to return the books to them - since I removed and opened the envelope.  I've decided that I will include a delivery confirmation on it so I can verify that they receive the books back.  According to the information on the back of the invoice, I can expect to wait up to 4 weeks for them to process my return and reverse the charge on my VISA debit card.

I have called my Credit Union and they told me that I needed to call a Fraud Prevention Center and get the card blocked, then come in to the Credit Union and turn the current card in, pay a $10 fee and get a new card with a different number issued.  I have called and got the current card blocked.  I'll go to the Credit Union later this afternoon and do that.  I had thought that I would go by the post office and get the unwanted books sent back, but I'm not sure I can do that without going home first and getting an envelope to put the paperwork in and attaching it to the box so they'll know whose account to credit the return to.

After cleaning up the kitchen, I headed back to my bedroom and made a couple of phone calls.  Then I went on to bed after that.

This morning I got up and set up the heater in the bathroom, then went back and did the devotional and Bible reading.  After that I went on to take a shower and get dressed, then eat breakfast and check out the newspaper.  Somehow, time got away from me and when I checked the clock, I had 15 minutes before I was due at work and there was no way I would make that.  So, I called and let the co-ordinator know I'd be a little late.

It's unusual for me to run late - I grew up with a mother that, as my brother jokes, would leave the house at 6:00 PM if she had to be across the street at 7:00 PM - in order to make sure she got there on time.  She wasn't that bad, but she did believe in being on time - if not early - and that rubbed off on me!  It's another reason why people being late - habitually - is a big pet peeve of mine.

Well, this is all I have for now....
