RABALAIS: Signing day complicated for Tigers

The LSU Tigers are just two days away from signing an exceptional recruiting class.

LSU has horded most of the state’s bluest blue-chip talent, filled its needs amply at just about every position except linebacker, and virtually assured itself of a psychologically important top-10 national recruiting ranking.

But nothing is as simple as it looks. And as the Tigers tick off the hours until the national letters of intent come rolling in, there are complications.

Boy, are there complications.

LSU has set up its own ceiling with this recruiting class by proposing to the NCAA that it sign only 23 players. That’s based on LSU’s self-reported recruiting violations concerning the now long gone Akiem Hicks and ex-assistant D.J. McCarthy and a glut of impermissible recruiting phone calls made by non-coaching members of the LSU football staff.
