Frantic Finish

Frantic Finish

Tigers still unbeaten after win over Vols

You want the worst of times and best of times? How about the good, bad and ugly?
Or how about all of that rolled into one quirky, unlikely, borderline, nightmare-turned-fairy tale finish on a sun-kissed afternoon at Tiger Stadium.

LSU seemed to suffer a stunning loss to outmanned Tennessee at Tiger Stadium because of another late-game clock-management meltdown.

Then — only after the Volunteers’ sideline exploded in a delirious celebration with players doing flips on the field and the massive orange ‘T’ flag paraded around a stunned stadium — the Tigers got one more untimed chance to score from the 1-yard line.

Stevan Ridley didn’t let the opportunity go wasted, bulling into the end zone and over UT defensive end Corey Miller for a 16-14 LSU triumph that triggered a whole new wave of emotions on both sides of the field.

Ridley’s touchdown blast on a simple toss play to the left side lifted the Tigers to an unlikely 5-0 overall and was their third Southeastern Conference victory without a loss.

The only reason Ridley and the LSU offense got a reprieve was because Tennessee (2-3, 0-2) was flagged for too many men on the field on what seemed like the final snap of the game.

The defensive penalty allowed the Tigers one more snap from the 1.
