New Orleans Saints Hold Off Carolina Panthers 16-14

"The New Orleans Saints eked out another victory Sunday, this time beating the Carolina Panthers 16-14 behind three John Carney field goals, putting the team in a solid position with the 2010 season one-quarter over but in an uncertain one for the remaining three-fourths. New Orleans (3-1) was unable to put the overmatched Panthers (0-4) away until the final seconds. The Saints were dominant on the stat sheet but barely ahead on the scoreboard, an outcome that left many of the 70,016 filing out of Superdome happy but vaguely concerned that this is not the same Saints team that won Super Bowl XLIV. Which, in fact, it decidedly is not. Though the long-term implications remain unclear, the"

John Carney Delivers For New Orleans Saints

"The fact that today's primary focus is the 46-year-old who stepped off the street and kicked three field goals in order for the New Orleans Saints to win is fairy tale-y, and fairly telling. John Carney still is a good player and unquestionably is a better person. Heck, he's helping tutor the guy he's subbing for, Garrett Hartley, likely expecting to hand back over the job at some point this season, same as he did last year. But he shouldn't have been a Saints hero Sunday, which he was in a 16-14 win over the Carolina Panthers at the Superdome. OK. Hero might be a little much, considering the Saints' defense actually was pretty good save for a couple of big touchdown plays, including a"

Tackle By New Orleans Saints' Usama Young Beginning Of End For Carolina Panthers

"This one was nice in a special way. With less than two minutes remaining, after the marching Carolina Panthers converted a fourth-and-4 to get new life and had moved to the New Orleans Saints' 36, you could sense the feeling inside the Superdome on Sunday. The Panthers were on their way to terminate an 0-3 losing streak and turn the Saints into a 2-2 football team. And then? And then Usama Young came up with the biggest one-on-one stop of the afternoon. When it looked as though the odds might be against it, he wrapped up DeAngelo Williams for 4 negative yards and pretty much wrapped up a 16-14 victory that could have been a 17-16 loss. "It was huge,'' said Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma."

Saints Defense Keeps John Kasay Off Field On Final Drive

http://www.prosportsdaily.com/comments/saints-defense-keeps-john-kasay-off-field-on-final-drive-416756.html

"Trailing the New Orleans Saints 16-14, the Carolina Panthers were hoping to move the ball at least to the New Orleans 35 on their final drive in the fourth quarter, Carolina Coach John Fox said. "Typically, John Kasay is a guy who has been very dependable,'' Fox said of his place-kicker, who would have been facing a 52-yard field goal if the drive had been halted at the 35. "It wouldn't have been automatic,'' Fox said. The Panthers didn't get close enough, and Kasay didn't get a chance to kick. Out of timeouts, the Panthers had reached the Saints' 36 and were playing a second-and-8 with 1:46 left. Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams took a handoff from quarterback Jimmy Clausen and cut"
