The Past Few Days....

I last posted on Thursday.  I've been active on my other blogs, though.  I had a pretty quiet and uneventful weekend at work.  Now I'm on vacation this entire week.  I had hoped to travel home to Louisiana for Thanksgiving, but I'm afraid that isn't happening.

I learned today that my SIL did not go for the CAT scan as scheduled.  It seems that her insurance company balked at approving the test after she has already had the heart cath.  So, it was canceled and instead, now they have to wait for the cardiologist to send the insurance people a letter explaining why he needs the CAT scan done and what he is looking for with it.  No telling how long that will take - to get approval for the test to be done.

I went to the Women's Luncheon at FBCJ today and served soup once again.  Attendance was down a little due to this being a holiday week, but we still had a good crowd.

I stopped at the post office and dropped off the class newsletters and also picked up my incoming mail - nothing but junk there.

After getting home and taking care of some business, I went online and looked up something, then called my brother back and gave him the information.  I also grabbed my camera and took a walk around the neighborhood and got some shots of the fall foliage.  I've posted a few shots on my photography blog; I also got some new shots of Sukiey and I posted some on her blog.

I guess there's not a lot to share, so this will do it....

Looking Back....

Wednesday I met 3 friends at Cracker Barrel for lunch.  We had a nice lunch and visit.  Then I returned home and tackled doing laundry.  I only had 2 loads this week - for which I was happy.  Sukiey had caused an extra load last week when she threw up on my bed.

I talked with my brother and learned the results of my SIL's visit with her cardiologist.  He said she has an aneurysm in her heart but the good news is that it's not of the aortic variety.  She goes for a CAT Scan on Monday and then will see the cardiologist again just before Christmas.

I told him that I ought to send Sukiey down to look at her.  CAT scan - well Sukiey is a cat!  He was amused by that comment.

Later on last night my housemate was in bed asleep and she was awakened by Rusty barking rather vociferously.  I was up and on the computer; I heard him too.  I usually don't hear him in my bedroom, but the house was quiet - TV off - and so I heard him.

I knew why.....I could hear thunder and it sounded like it was right outside my bedroom window.  It was also raining.  She got up and as she was heading back to her bedroom, I was in the hallway and she asked if I had heard Rusty barking and I said yes.  She said she didn't know why he was barking but she had brought him inside and had him in the den.  I told her that it had been thundering and raining.  That explained it - the thunder!

She went on back to bed, I went out to the kitchen and got a drink, then returned to my bedroom and went on to bed myself.

I don't know where that storm came from last night, but it's shaping up to be a beautiful day today.  It's currently 52 degrees under sunny/fair skies.  I've already eaten breakfast and have cleaned up in the kitchen.

It's time for me to do some other things....

An Update....

Today is a milestone day for me - yep, it's my birthday.  I've been trying something new.  I had several "stand alone" pages on this blog and was also posting [mainly] about LSU and the Saints along with adding other things from time to time.

I was trying to find a free website that would allow me multiple blogs for different categories.  I tried several different ones, but none turned out to be satisfactory.  So, what I wound up doing this afternoon was sitting down and creating separate blogs for each category - I now have a total of 6 separate blogs and will post news about LSU and the Saints on their blogs, photos on the photo blog I set up, stuff about Sukiey on the blog I set up for her and stuff about Josephus on that blog.

This will cause me not to have so many posts on this blog each month anymore, but that's okay.  I'll get over it!  I'll just post on the appropriate blog instead.

In other news, I went to work - but not to work, this morning.  My group was having a Thanksgiving BBQ lunch and I attended to eat with my co-workers.  I had a good time with them.  When I left to return home, I stopped at the post office for the mail and found that I only had a couple of pieces of junk and a mailer from LifeWay Christian Stores.

As I was reaching the house, rain started coming down again.  I raised the garage door and pulled in and parked, then lowered the door.  So, I didn't get wet - period.

I've received numerous text messages, phone calls, FB messages, e-mails and even some "snail mail" paper cards.  It makes me realize how many friends and family I do have!

Time to run along....

On the impressive résumé the LSU defense has created and polished this fall, there was one major hole after nine games. All season long, the Tigers defense has operated as one of the Southeastern Conference’s top units, shaking off dubious record-setting days by two opponents to lead the league in total defense, pass defense, turnovers created and first downs allowed while hovering near the top in rush defense and sacks.

P. F. Chang's China Bistro & Renaissance @ Colony Park

Saturday evening, 11132010, I went to P. F. Chang's China Bistro, located at Renaissance @ Colony Park in Ridgeland, MS.  I went with my housemate and 4 friends.  We had reservations and were seated fairly quickly after we arrived to claim them.

We had a good time and enjoyable dinner at P.F. Chang's China Bistro.  We were there to celebrate my birthday - upcoming on Tuesday.  After ordering our meals, I opened my gifts while we were waiting for our orders.

I received a number of gifts, including a copy of former President George W. Bush's new book, Decision Points, a plaque, a set of beauty basics and a couple of notepads and another book.

After eating dinner, we ordered a dessert that consisted of a slice of a 6 layer chocolate cake.  Since there were 6 of us, each got a layer of it.  I got a picture of the slice of cake before I allowed my housemate to cut it apart and serve it.  Here's what it looked like:

It was as excellent as it appears and I enjoyed my piece!!

I had noticed that there was a group of people in a booth behind us and one of the people kept snapping pictures.  I surmised that they were also celebrating a birthday - there was a child among them and it appeared it was hers.  Once I finished my piece of cake, while the others were still eating theirs, I excused myself, got up and went over to the booth and excused myself to them, then asked if they would like for me to take a picture of all of them - so as to include the lady who had been taking the pictures of the rest of them.  They were pleased by my offer, so the lady handed me the camera and squeezed over into the group.  I asked them to "squnch" in together and they did.  I took the shot, then handed the camera back to the lady.

They thanked me and I rejoined my companions at our table.  None of them had any idea what I had gone off to do as I didn't say when I got up and stepped away.

Eventually, the bills came - my housemate picked up mine.  We left the restaurant and outside, before going to the car, got some pictures of one of the horse statues and it also included a portion of the restaurant in the shot.  My housemate took a couple of pictures of me with the horse statue.  She had to take one at an awkward angle in order to get the entire statue in the shot.

They suggested I climb up on the base of the statue, but I opted not to try that since it had been raining and was wet, plus there was nothing for me to even attempt it.  They had said that if I did get up on the base of the statue, they could get a good shot of me with the horse.

We went on to my housemate's car and put our stuff inside and got our jackets and put them on as it had cooled down while we were inside.  Then we drove over to the shopping area of Renaissance and caught up with one of our friends.  I was interested in staying out there and my housemate wanted to get on home.  Well, I wanted to see if our friend would drop me off on her way home, but she said that she couldn't because she had something else to do when she left Renaissance - she wasn't going straight home.

Oh well, I returned to the car and my housemate and I headed home.  Before leaving Renaissance, though, we stopped and I got out and got a couple of pictures of the waterfall with the horse statues.

LSU Football News for 11/11/2010

Football: Jefferson, LSU upend Alabama, 24-21
http://www.lsureveille.com/sports/football-jefferson-lsu-upend-alabama-24-21-1.2 396714

LSU entered its game Saturday against rival Alabama as a well-recognized underdog. But that didn't matter to coach Les Miles and the Tigers. LSU (8-1, 5-1) overcame familiar early offensive struggles behind junior quarterback Jordan Jefferson's best performance of the season, including the team's longest pass play this season, in a 24-21 victory against Alabama (7-2, 4-2).

Football: Peterson, Jasper nab critical fourth-down conversions in 24-21 win

http://www.lsureveille.com/sports/football-peterson-jasper-nab-critical-fourth-d own-conversions-in-24-21-win-1.2396776

Down 14-13 on Saturday, LSU football coach Les Miles called a timeout on fourth-and-1 with 9:51 remaining at Alabama's 26-yard line. What happened next sent 92,969 fans into a frenzy. Instead of lining up for a field goal, junior tight end Deangelo Peterson took a reverse from junior running back Stevan Ridley for 23 yards to the Alabama 3-yard line.

Football: Sophomore WR has career day Saturday against Alabama following early drop

http://www.lsureveille.com/sports/football-sophomore-wr-has-career-day-saturday- against-alabama-following-early-drop-1.2398502

Video: Rueben Randle Interview Rueben Randle needed a pick-me-up at halftime. The sophomore receiver had a crucial drop on No. 5 LSU's final drive of the first half that would have put the Tigers in position to get into field goal range. Instead, the Tigers were forced to punt and went into halftime trailing.

Football: Team assesses injuries from Saturday?s battle with Alabama

http://www.lsureveille.com/football-team-assesses-injuries-from-saturday-s-battl e-with-alabama-1.2398305

For the second year in a row, the LSU football team walked away from the Alabama game torn, tattered and trampled.   Little less than a year after the 2009 Alabama contest left the Tigers riddled with injuries, Saturday's scuffle with the Crimson Tide brought the losses of three key cogs in the LSU football machine.

Football: LSU making effort to schedule in-state opponents

http://www.lsureveille.com/sports/football-lsu-making-effort-to-schedule-in-stat e-opponents-1.2399878

Joe Alleva, LSU vice chancellor and director of athletics, got a good impression of LSU football in his first game with his new job. Alleva saw LSU, the then-defending national champions, annihilate Appalachian State, 41-13, to open the 2008 season. But he wasn't completely satisfied after the opening-game win.

Football: LSU-ULM game to reunite players with former teammates

http://www.lsureveille.com/sports/football-lsu-ulm-game-to-reunite-players-with- former-teammates-1.2399889

The LSU football team is swelling with Pelican State pride. The Tigers boast players from as far away as Michigan, Kansas and South Carolina, but in-state players make up the majority of the team. Two smaller neighboring cities in northern Louisiana hold their own on the roster, though Baton Rouge and New Orleans claim the bulk of LSU athletes.

Football team establishes passing game

http://www.lsureveille.com/sports/football-air-strike-1.2401781

It took nine games, but the LSU football team has finally established a downfield passing attack. At least temporarily. Through eight games, LSU quarterbacks were 16-of-54 on passes thrown 10 or more yards downfield - screen passes and other short throws that went for more than 10 yards were not counted - including 1-of-8 on Oct. 23 against a depleted Auburn secondary.

http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/106938929.html

There’s no question LSU’s 24-21 victory against Alabama on Saturday was important for a lot of reasons. In the Southeastern Conference standings, it was obviously huge, leaving the No. 5-ranked Tigers (8-1, 5-1 SEC) just a game behind No. 3 Auburn in the West Division.

LSU in BCS race

Although a long shot, don't count Tigers out

http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/107015973.html

LSU’s 24-21 victory over Alabama on Saturday made a national championship contender out of the Tigers.
LSU vaulted from No. 12 to No. 5, putting the Tigers at the top of the list of the one-loss BCS teams.
While the win over Alabama turned LSU into a player in the BCS drama, the Tigers’ loss to Auburn last month may ultimately keep them out of the big two spots for the Tostitos BCS National Championship game on Jan. 10 in Glendale, Ariz.

http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2010/11/lsus_jordan_jefferson_jarrett.html

Baton Rouge -- There were no more improbable figures than Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee to take LSU's fate in their hands Saturday at Tiger Stadium and deliver the Tigers from evil.

Or from Alabama and Coach Nick Saban, who are an acceptable equivalent in Baton Rouge.

Jefferson and Lee have been the banes of LSU's offensive existence this season. They are the co-heads of a quarterback system that most felt had LSU headed for a lower-tier bowl game.

Jefferson and Lee were heroes against the Crimson Tide as much as any Tigers could have been in a 24-21 victory that kept alive the hopes of LSU (8-1, 5-1 SEC) to win the SEC West Division, advance to the conference title game and play for the BCS national title.

Favre, Vikings Take It On The Chin

http://www.prosportsdaily.com/comments/favre-vikings-take-it-on-the-chin--427716.html

"The Vikings' season could have best been described as a disappointment entering Sunday. But as the team pulled out of Gillette Stadium on Sunday evening following a 28-18 loss to New England, disappointment had turned into drama, a full-fledged soap opera that at this rate only has nine episodes left. The fact the Vikings dropped to 2-5 -- a record that somehow puts a club laden with Pro Bowl players in the basement of the NFC North with Detroit -- was only a sliver of the story. Where do we start? How about with this. Perhaps tired of seeing Brett Favre draw all the attention, Randy Moss took to the podium and conducted his own question-and-answer session because he's no longer taking"

Jerry Jones Contemplates Firing Coach; Phillips: 'I'm At A Loss Right Now'

http://www.prosportsdaily.com/comments/jerry-jones-contemplates-firing-coach-phillips-im-at-a-loss-right-now-427484.html

"These underachieving Cowboys have done the impossible: They've shaken head coach Wade Phillips' confidence and made Jerry Jones contemplate firing him during the season. That's what happens when a team goes through the motions and gets blown out, 35-17, by the mighty Jacksonville Jaguars. Against Mr. Fix It's raggedy defense, David Garrard passed for 260 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. Garrard, benched earlier this season, finished with a nearly perfect passer rating of 157.8. Maurice Jones-Drew rushed for 135 yards and Mike Sims-Walker, hardly a household name, added 153 yards receiving. Ridiculous. "I'm distraught to say the least," Phillips said. "It was embarrassing the way we"

Monday - November 1, 2010

It's a brand new month we've got here, hard to believe we're in the 11th month of the year.  We got some rain this morning; Barbie is calling for more rain throughout this week.  She says 100% for tomorrow and 70% on Wednesday.

This morning I left the house just after 9:00 AM and went to PetSmart and picked up a package of litter box liners for Sukiey.  I had bought some at another store and wasn't happy with them when I went to use one the last time I changed her litter box.  So, I went to PetSmart and got a package to try and see if I like them or not.  If I do, I'll go back and buy a larger sized package - that is, a larger quantity of liners.

When I was done there, I went to SuperCuts and got a hair cut.  Then I stopped and got gas, plus stopped at the grocery store and picked up a bag of dog food for Rusty and a few items I needed.

After I was done there, I stopped at the post office and mailed a package to a friend, plus inquired about Christmas "forever" stamps and learned that they were not yet available - which is surprising.  I picked up my mail and found I had a couple of pieces of junk - which I tossed - along with a couple of packages and a few other items.  I also had an item which was not for me - but instead addressed to a business that I have nothing to do with - and so I took it to one of the clerks and told her that it was not for me and because of who the sender was, it needed to be returned as undeliverable - not at this address.

After getting done with all that, I went to FBCJ and parked in the garage, then went to the Fellowship Hall and helped with serving soup for the Women's Luncheon.  After an interesting message, I headed out and returned home.

I laid down and went through the mail, then took a nap.  I've got the TV on.  I was too tired last night to watch the Saints game - believe it or not.  There was nothing in the newspaper about the game this morning - they said it ended too late for the edition of the paper.  Well, I've checked online and learned that the Saints won 30-10 over the Steelers.

The big news is that the Minnesota Vikings have waived/released Randy Moss after his game performance and a post-game commentary yesterday after the loss to the Patriots.  Dumb move Randy!

Not much else is going on....
