College Football Opening Weekend - 2010

I was somewhat impressed with how Notre Dame played vs. Purdue.  They played a good game and won.

Jimbo Fisher succeeded Bobby Bowden as head coach at Florida State and the Seminoles came out and played a great game and won their season opener. Jimbo is a former member of the LSU coaching staff under a previous head coach, Nicky Saban I think.

Last night was the anticipated Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic featuring my LSU Tigers vs. North Carolina's Tar Heels.  That game took about 4 hours to play due to all of the TV time-outs.
The game had its excellent moments and then its horrible moments.  The Tigers played well in the 1st half and terrible in the 2nd.  They had to hang on to a 4th and goal with 2 seconds left and knock the ball away to seal a win by a final of 30-24.

Brent Musberger said that LSU didn't so much win, as they survived, the game.  I have a tendency to agree with that statement.  I believe that Les Miles and his coaching staff have some work to do this week to get the team ready to play on Saturday vs. Vanderbilt in Nashville.

The team that played in the 1st half is the team that needs to show up against Vanderbilt and all the rest of the teams on the schedule this season.  Otherwise, the Tigers will likely find themselves on the outside looking in come SEC Championship time and possibly even the postseason.

In other news I was pleased to see Ole Miss lose in double OT to Jacksonville State [Alabama] and Mississippi State win - handily - over Memphis.
