On Saturday nights in the fall, Dave Barron and Billy Bean scan tickets of fans entering Tiger Stadium’s east upper deck.
The Livingston Parish residents were on the LSU campus again Sunday afternoon, but this time they came simply to support their favorite team.
Like any other year, Barron and Bean were at LSU’s annual Fan Day, blending in with thousands of other autograph-seekers wearing purple and gold.
“We love LSU,” Barron said, carrying a poster coach Les Miles signed. “I think this is about 10 years we’ve been coming to this.”
The scene was the same as always. Young girls wore miniature LSU cheerleader outfits. Fathers in purple hats and jerseys walked with young boys wearing plastic LSU helmets.
The difference was the location.
Half the LSU football team set up in the Carl Maddox Field House, and the other half at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, bringing the event back to campus after two years at the River Center downtown.
Fan Day’s traditional home is Tiger Stadium, but Louisiana’s humidity never agreed with that.
“We thought we’d give this a shot,” LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette said.
