LSU Starts Campaign to Preserve Tiger Stadium
BATON ROUGE - LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva, along with the Tiger Athletic Foundation, have announced a campaign that will help preserve and restore the look of Tiger Stadium.
The first phase of this private fundraising project is to refurbish the 400 windows in the North End of Tiger Stadium. The North End Window Project is the initial phase of Alleva's plan to overhaul the entire corridor of North Stadium Drive between Tiger Stadium and the Maravich Center.
"My first observation about Tiger Stadium when I arrived at LSU was the poor condition of the outside of the stadium, particularly the number of broken windows," Alleva said. "So we are launching a campaign to replace every window in the facility, beginning with the north end where thousands of fans gather each Saturday to see the football team and the Tiger Marching Band march down Victory Hill.
"Tiger Stadium is one of the most iconic venues in all of college sports, and it is has even more meaning for LSU fans around the world. Tiger fans have grown up there, made friends there, cheered there and cried there. The memories are endless. That is why the preservation of the 86-year-old home of the Tigers is so important."
