Brett Favre was on the field with high school football players in Mississippi on Wednesday, one day after his text messages to teammates about his playing status touched off a firestorm over his playing status.

Favre did not do much running on his still-tender left ankle, the NFL Network reported from Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Miss. But he threw passes to players and helped offer instructions to the schoolboys.

Favre told NFL Network that he went for a bike ride on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday night, he told ex-NFL coach Steve Mariucci that he had not yet decided to retire.
