Brad Childress: Vikings felt teammates could convince Brett Favre to return in person
Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress said he authorized sending three players on a recruiting trip on Monday because he felt it would be the clincher to lure Brett Favre back to the team.
Childress got approval from team owner Zygi Wilf to send Steve Hutchinson, Ryan Longwell and Jared Allen to Favre's Mississippi home because he felt Favre wouldn't be able to refuse their in-person pleas.
"Any kind of relationship you can only get so much done over the phone," Childress said, referencing the communication players had been having with Favre.
The quarterback practiced with the Vikings for the first time on Wednesday and said he came back out of loyalty to his teammates and a desire to try for one more Super Bowl title.
"We wanted him back," Childress said. "It wasn't me wanting him back. It was WE wanting him back."
