Michael Ford benches presses 425 pounds, squats 510 and power cleans 352. His vertical jump is 42 inches, the best of any player on the LSU football team.

When he dons a game jersey, his Hulk Hogan-like biceps jump from the sleeves.

Ford passed the eyeball test the day he set foot on the LSU campus, and his reputation as a weight-room marvel is supported by the numbers he posted in summer workouts.

But the only statistics Ford, 5-foot-10, 210 pounds, owns as a college running back came in a glorified scrimmage.

“You’re a little anxious, having sat out a year,” he said. “You’re just really excited, like a kid in the candy store.”
