METAIRIE — In the four seasons since Sean Payton became the New Orleans Saints coach in 2006, his offense has put up some eye-popping numbers.
In the 64 regular-season games the Saints have played under Payton, they’ve amassed 25,076 total yards in leading the NFL in total offense three of those four seasons. Throw in 197 offensive touchdowns in that time — including 123 passing — and it’s easy to see why the Saints have garnered so much attention on that side of the ball.
It all culminated with a victory in Super Bowl XLIV when quarterback Drew Brees completed 29 of 32 pass attempts over the final three quarters — just the latest in a series of attention-grabbing performances for him and his offense.
It makes you wonder what the Saints can do this season to improve.
