Defense putting up offensive-style numbers

Defense putting up offensive-style numbers

BATON ROUGE — LSU's two longest plays from scrimmage Saturday night in its 29-7 victory over Mississippi State were both on interceptions. Cornerback Patrick Peterson had a 46-yard return, while cornerback Morris Claiborne had a 29-yard return.

The longest offensive play from scrimmage by the Tigers was a 21-yard pass from quarterback Jordan Jefferson to wide receiver Russell Shepard. LSU's total on five interception returns was 106 yards. Jefferson threw for just 97 yards on 10-of-16 passing.
"We changed the game with the five interceptions," said Peterson, who had two along with his partner in crime, Claiborne. "We need to try to keep doing that and try to return them for touchdowns. When we get another chance to do that, we have to get it in the end zone."
Peterson had a total of 46 yards on two interception returns. Defensive tackle Drake Nevis had 3 yards on one interception, and Claiborne, a sophomore from Fair Park, had two for 57.
