Glenn Guilbeau: Picky fans miss the point so far in LSU's season

BATON ROUGE – We may all be focusing on the wrong things so far in this LSU football season.

How many games will Coach Les Miles have to win to keep his job? Who’s calling the plays? Is quarterback Jordan Jefferson going to get any better? Why isn’t quarterback Jarrett Lee playing? Why isn’t Russell Shepard still playing quarterback? Why isn’t tailback Michael Ford playing?
LSU football is supposed to be enjoyed the way Saints football is being enjoyed this season. Yes, the Saints are much better with a better head coach who calls the plays, a better quarterback, a better backup quarterback, and it doesn’t matter who's at running back because the offensive line is so good.
But LSU fans this season seem to be more burdened than excited. Yet their team is 3-0 after a dominating 29-7 win Saturday over a decent Mississippi State team that came close to beating Auburn. LSU is ranked No. 12 in the country and has a very good chance of being 5-0 and in the top eight going into Florida on Oct. 9, and the Gators are not looking like their usual selves.
True, LSU’s competition has not been the greatest, and a bad LSU team could be 3-0 now. The 1998 Tigers, for example, started 3-0 with a win at Auburn and reached No. 6 in the polls, then finished 4-7.
