NEW ORLEANS — In their preseason-opening loss to New England nine days ago, the New Orleans Saints offense scored barely half of its norm from last season, the defense had no takeaways and the special teams gave up big plays.
In other words, the defending Super Bowl champions had plenty to work on across the board in preparation for preseason Game 2 — against Houston (0-1) at 7 p.m. today in the Superdome.
“You want to focus on the fundamentals,” coach Sean Payton said, “blocking, tackling, and protecting the football, those are the first things that can get sloppy in a preseason game. Those are the kinds of things we were able to point out in the New England game. Those are the things we would like to see corrected as we head into this game.”
