LSU running back Stevan Ridley put the Tigers offense on his shoulders Saturday, one week after shouldering the blame for a near-loss on opening night.

Ridley's fourth-quarter running helped the Tigers overcome a sluggish offensive performance and subdue Vanderbilt 27-3 at Vanderbilt Stadium.

The 6-foot, 226-pound junior rushed for a career-high 159 yards on 17 carries and polished off his night with a 65-yard scoring run for LSU's final touchdown. He had 118 yards in the fourth quarter.

"It felt great, " said Ridley of his career-high performance. "I felt sick all week about the fumbles. It was my fault we didn't finish that game last week. But I've got to forget about this game, just like I forgot about last week's game, and move on and try to get better."

The victory sends LSU into its home opener with Mississippi State next week at 2-0, and should help to wipe out some of the bad feeling left over from the Tigers' narrow escape against North Carolina the week before.

"If we don't turn it over four times in that game, that game looks a lot like this one, " LSU Coach Les Miles said. "The defense was spectacular. Vanderbilt was pressed to get a first down.

"It was not perfect. We've got work to do. We've got to start faster."
