Hotard: Breaking up can be right thing to do

Breakups never look good, even ones involving college athletes changing schools.
For the player, it’s a sign maybe he didn’t think he was good enough to play at the school he’s leaving. For the coaches, it’s a sign maybe they missed the mark when they recruited the player or maybe they did a poor job of developing the player’s talents.
You won’t read that in a university news release or hear it from the parties involved. They’ll say what anyone involved in a breakup would say. They’ll say it was a bad fit.
But, really, the thing called ‘moving on’ in college athletics — especially college football — is natural, expected and, quite often, mutually beneficial.
