NEW ORLEANS – Sean Payton and Drew Brees appear to be the “Darlings of the Airwaves’’ these days. There they are, the ubiquitous ones, smiling, engaging, selling themselves and their hard-covered books but mostly telling the story of a still magical season and the city/fans who love them.
And it’s happening again tonight (8 p.m. ESPN) with the annual ESPYs in Los Angeles.
Brees is up for three awards – Best Male Athlete, Best Championship Performance and Best NFL Player. A sweep might be asking too much but he makes a great argument! Payton is up for Best Coach/Manager and the Black and Gold are competing for the Best Moment and Best Team.
Payton seemed cool, calm and collected when we connected via cell phone today around lunch time. The kids, Meghan and Conner, were playing video games and Beth was at the hotel spa, leaving the coach a few idle moments.
